Friday 21st July

A lot, as it happens! The first thing is that I slept much better, and apart from a brief trip down the corridor to be weighed and have my temperature taken at 5am, I slept uninterrupted till around 9am. I’ve lost just over half a pound since I was born: what a result! If I carry on at this rate, then in only a month I’ll be, hang on…better not keep losing weight I suppose!

Mum and Dad then took me to my first photo shoot, where I posed for 27 (twenty-seven) photos taken by the in-house photographer. One will be published online later today, and Mum and Dad can then decide how many to order later in the week. Honestly, losing weight first thing, posing for photos before lunch: am I a new born baby or a model?

Thursday 20th July

Consciousness of my first full morning on Earth began with my first ever sneeze before 5am, which served as an alarm call for us both and left me a little bemused. Just after this, as we were both trying to sleep again, another woman was brought in to replace the one who left yesterday afternoon. Result – no more sleep…

Met Mum’s friends Pippa and Wiebke for the first time. Pippa came first, around 9am, and brought Mum some fruit; Wiebke came later and took our first family photo, by which time Dad had arrived, looking a lot more human than the last time we’d seen him! Both said I was beautiful, but maybe they were just being polite. Mum said they wouldn’t have said it if they didn’t mean it: they could have just congratulated her instead. I also starred in my first video, which was filmed unannounced by Dad, and co-starred Mum and Wiebke talking about something or other, but I was the star of the show, so the topic of conversation was irrelevant.

Wednesday 19th July 2017

On the stroke of midnight I decided to let Mum know it was time to go to the hospital. Today was her due date after all. She responded immediately, of course, and soon we were all in a taxi for the short drive to St Joseph’s. It ended up taking all night to travel the short distance from my cosy one-room flat to the vastness outside, but as I’d always wanted to see the world, I didn’t mind how long the journey took, although I’m not sure Mum was of the same opinion.

After arriving I left the room quickly, as I had some vital business to attend to with the doctors, then I came back to see Mum and Dad: I felt it was important to get to know them as soon as possible (after all, I’m planning to live with them for a while). The first thing I saw was Dad crying. Maybe he wasn’t pleased to see me, but I also noticed he had a smile on his face; it might take me a while to get used to this confusing behaviour.
