After I had fed at 3am, Mum woke Dad at 4 to ask him to take a spider away from the corner of the room: it was getting a little too close to my bed for comfort, and she didn’t want to take any chances. Dad looked like he was still asleep as he half-sleepwalked to the spider’s hideout, but seconds later it found itself unceremoniously dumped out of the window. I’m beginning to learn this can be a tough old world, and it seems to matter who’s on your side in any particular situation. Still, in this case, it was Lovett Family 1-0 Spider, so that’s the end of that.
At 9.30 Granny Lotte, Mum’s Mum, and Grandpa Hannes arrived to see me for the first time. They’re staying till Monday, and will help Mum and Dad take care of me, give advice, and a few other things besides. I met Anton, Findus’s brother, for the first time, and he seems very friendly, if a little excitable! Mum got Findus at the same time as her mum got Anton, when the dogs were just puppies, so the two families have an extra reason to be excited when they get together. think I’ll be a big dog-lover as I get older, though: they’re such lovable creatures. The two couples talked for a long time: my grandparents were really pleased to see me, and said what a lovely girl I was. My charm is in operation again.
Pippa came round to bring Mum something, and I met her son for the first time. He was a little shy to come near me at first, but after a while was sitting on the bed and comparing the size of his hands and feet to mine. After that, though, he said, “Mama, komm!” and the visit was over as quickly as it had begun. We’ll have a lot of fun together in the future though, I’m more than sure.
Dad has somehow got a bit worse at nappy changing in the last day or so: he was fine at first, but now seems to have lost confidence. Of course it doesn’t help him that I sometimes choose this time to try disco dancing while on my back, but he must just get used to it, no?.
In the afternoon a card arrived from Wales with a cheque from Granddad Mervyn. Super! He wanted to surprise Mum and Dad by paying for the beautiful hand-painted cupboard in my room. He’s a birdwatcher (or twitcher), and liked it so much he decided to offer it to me as a present. How lovely…
Granny Lotte made a really tasty dinner in the evening, but I just had my usual meal, although I did feed for as long as I could. After that I was so tired I went straight to sleep. Good thing: if today was busy, tomorrow promises to be even more so. It’s time for what may become known as something of a milestone…
